I had to post this

Because it rings so true. I hate these silly fwds from supposed friends - but this came in this morning and I have to admit, it hit home! So, I couldn't resist sharing this somewhat edited list with you.

You know you're from New Jersey when . . .

You don't think of fruit when people mention "The Oranges."

You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery.

You know what a "jug handle" is.

You know that the state isn't all farmland, but still has plenty.

You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey -- there's
the shore--and you don't go "to the shore,"you go "down the shore."
And when you are there, you're not "at the shore"; you are "down the shore."

You know how to properly negotiate a circle (and you
knew that the last sentence had to do with driving).

You know that this is the only "New" state that doesn't require "New"
to identify it (try: Mexico, York, Hampshire - doesn't work, does it?).

You know that a "White Castle" is BOTH a fast food chain AND a fast food sandwich.

You don't think "What exit?" as a location is very funny.

You live within 30 minutes of at least three different malls.

You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers.

Every year you had at least one kid in your class named Tony.

You weren't raised in New Jersey --you were raised in
either North Jersey, Central Jersey or South Jersey.

You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of the state.

You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's, Channel, Bamberger's,
Bond’s and Orbach's.

And finally . . .
You've NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, EVER pumped your own gas.

Rayna,

thanks for the post, I am a Jersey Girl and absolutley remember going DOWN THE SHORE, and wish jug handles existed in other places as I might then know where to turn.

I have fond memories of going down the shore as a child, looking forward to the summer when those days would come when we would travel down the shore on weekends.

And I remember Two Guys, I was raised in North Jersey and oh yes who could forget White Castle.

And some days I wish I didnt have to pump my own gas...

thanks for the memories....

I still call it Two Guys, even though it has been something else for decades. A good point of reference, as it "you know, it's near Two Guys." And the White Castle near me is gone, too. Sigh...
Where in North Jersey? I was raised in Montclair. And I still don't know how to pump gas. Don't want to know.

I was born in Jersey City, then lived in Brick and then moved to Glen Gardner and eventually to PA.
I remember two guys, it seemed like it was actually the first big dept store I remember my mom taking us to as a kid.
I used to eat white castle after church when I was a kid, went to catholic school. Havent had one of those in years and I always pump my own gas.
I was in NJ recently and needed gas and automatically get out to pump my own, I always forget you dont have to when in NJ.
So is two guys still around, and I am sure the shore has changed, havent see it in over 11 years.

Two Guys is gone - but Vornado, the parent company, owns zillions of $$ in commercial real estate property. Some of the shore is the same, depending on where. But lots of it has high rises on the beach - blecch.

Apologies to everyone who couldn't care less. E-mail me the next time you'll be in the Garden State, Michelle V.

South Jersey girl here, born and raised! Been a California girl much longer, but I do go visit now and then. I remember Two Guys from Harrison and Robert Hall! I lived near Routes 130 and 206...can't remember which turnpike exit. And yes, I had relatives down the shore! Last time I was in NJ was 2004, and I brought my Long Island born and raised DH. I always start to jump out and pump the gas...which was cheaper there, too! (P.S. You recently taught out here in Santa Barbara/Goleta and I saw some of the results at our recent Fibervision meeting. Wish I could have gone.)
