learning curve

Remarkably easy in some areas; impossible in others.  Tomorrow morning, a getting started class - but they probably won't be able to answer my question about how to make Photoshop the default for importing/opening pix instead of that silly iphoto...or a few other silly things.
Yes, Laura - I'm using Word and Excel and the Mac version of outlook express, which really takes a lot of work to set up the way I want it. A work in progress.
Nevertheless, I am posting from my new machine tonight for the first time. Thanks for all your support - I am still wondering whether it will really be better than my dead Dell, which I loved.
My sciatica nerve is screaming from sitting for 3 days at one computer or another.  But until the Advil takes effect, I'll tell you briefly about the NJ Quiltfest, where I was on Thursday.
I was happy to see that the book vendor had placed these two next to one another.  She had me sign the books on the shelf, so that was nice.
Finally, I had to take a picture of this quilt which is hanging in Usha's booth. It's the inspiration for the commission quilt I am doing -- although it can never be duplicated.
The advil is starting to work, so I am going to attempt to climb the stairs.  I'll fix the sidebar problem tomorrow when I am not quite so tired.  The formatting is different at Blogger for the Mac - it won't let me shrink pix once they are posted.  One day at a time.

I Know, I know. We mac snobs are gonna be all over your conversion. Really, it is a better world on mac. And though you want outlook as you are used to it, I think you might consider changing over to MAIL as it is the machine's native langualge. If you are signed up for one-to-one classes at an Apple store, they are really helpful at getting your system configured. By the way, I am a 20+ year mac user and I still sign up for the one-to-one classes every year because I learn so much for the $99 a year fee. And the Genius bar will do updates, etc as you need them!

I know that I must have clicked a button in my Photoshop elements programs to make it the default for loading my photos, since every time I put a card in the laptop, it automatically starts checking for photos and loads them into the program......i also have it set to scan certain folders for new photos as well apparently.

is that your lovely quilt there at Usha's booth? Gotta be! Does she have a website? I want the pattern for the dress to the left of said lovely quilt.

Hope the sciatica is gone for good!

I'm not sure how to tell your machine to not import pics via iPhoto, but if you're still looking for the answer to how to get any existing photo file (jpeg or other format) to open in Photoshop (rather than in iPhoto or the dreaded "Preview"), let me know -- it's easy to describe, but a bit wordy so I won't try now.

Rayna. I too just got the mac pro..But I don't care what anyone says..it is still complicated although an incredible computer. I signed up for 52 lessons at the apple store for $100 bucks. I have one to one sessions with apple teachers and they really are terrific. I agree, iphoto is "silly" you have to export everything to use create images that you want to work on in photoshop. Good luck...I have a feeling it will be worth it....
