getting ready

Yesterday, we spent the whole day setting up for open studios - and having a few laughs along the way. My roommate Francesca is a printmaker and does amazing etchings.

Anyway, before I  go over to the studios, here are a few pix I took yesterday when we were finished setting up. I was really pleased with the results of mounting my small pieces on black stretched canvas. Worth the effort of sore shoulders from all that unaccustomed stitching from the day before!

Below, two quilts pinned to my design wall.

The scarves look great hanging on this special display element contributed by a donor who wishes to remain anonymous.

Exhausted at the end of the day, we went outside to get some air and I plunked myself down happily in the chair at the dumpster.  I think we should have taken it upstairs.  If it is still there today, I will probably do so.(not that I have room for it).

More later, après le déluge.

Looking good!

I can't imagine anyone would plop those chairs by the dumpster. Don't they have resale shops there?

Oh geesh, I thought you were gonna take the DUMPSTER up to your studio! I sure could use one! But yes, grab the chairs.

Those chairs ARE the bomb! I am often amazed by the comfort of old 1950s/1960s office chairs and have plucked my share from the curb. Surely a freecycle post would stop these from filling up the landfill...

My favorite find? A captains chair c. 1850 at the curb....one of the most comfortable chairs in the world...my husband wanted me to sell it a a garage sale...until he spent most of the sale sitting in it and even without a cushion he loved it.

Love the scarf display, and the scarves, too! Open studios are so much fun - it's nice to have a chance to meet people and talk about what you do. Have a great time!

I wonder if the chair(s) was still there this morning? You must be able to free some space for at least one, I know! Hope you had lots of enthousiastic visitors today, grtz

Wow! I love how the mini quilt looks mounted on canvas! I really must try that one of these days... have a great Open Studios! And why not drape a quilt over the back of the chair when you get it upstairs? Tres' Chic!

Have fun. I love that first piece especially -- its quite playful and a bit lighter than much of what I've seen from you this year, understandably. Hope the studio tour is a great success. Linda and I are on our way to Spain for 3 weeks of differences. Walking a bit of the Camino Santiago, a week in Barcelona, a few days in Madrid. Take care.
