This is a detail shot of a piece I just finished for an exhibit. I screened the first layer using torn newspaper and black paint but the black was too dark so I rinsed it out till it was gray. The gray & white fabric has been sitting around for months and last night, I knew what I needed to do with it.
The trees are a screen I made from a picture I took last year in Bruges, and the layer of handwriting that seems to haunt my work, found its way onto the cloth as another layer.
I cannot believe how quickly this piece came together. I quilted it in about 5 minutes, without thinking about it. This is unusual for me -- I normally agonize over every stitch. I should probably have been a printmaker but I just can't resist the feel of the cloth.

I like it. For me, it's all of the layers and the handwriting.
I love it! How big is it? Where's the exhibit?
I like this. It seems to have a lot of depth.
Wow...wish I could get on a roll like that.

It's 14 x 22 and the exhbit is at your gallery, Mary.
The layering is great and like Elle, I love the scribbled handwriting. I can't believe that you quilted it so quickly.
The nice thing about being an art quilter is that you can be a printmaker, a painter, a drawer, a beadworker, a collagist...everything.
