blowing in the wind

Hurricane Sandy heading right for NJ - argh.  Winds kicking up and dire predictions up the wazoo.  So far, so good. My daughter Hilary has lost power but we are still ok. Working at home today and have a friend staying to keep me company, which is a good thing.

I cannot thank those of you who have emailed me with good thoughts from as far away as Australia, Germany, and England.  Not to mention the wonderful person who is taking my class at Tahoe next week and offered to pick me up if my flight was rerouted to SFO instead of LAX.  I am overwhelmed with all of your kindness.

While the power is still on and there was still a bit of light outside, I videotaped my woods as the wind started to pick up.  It is more the noise than anything that is a bit scary.

We are in for the duration; dinner is in the oven and I have made cold Chinese sesame noodles with sliced up pork chops that were languishing in the fridge. Have tuna and beans and peanut butter, so we will not starve if the power goes

Take care Rayna and stay safe. Although we don't experience such hurricanes here in the south of Australia - we do have the bush-fire season coming up. I know scary it can be sometimes when nature needs to make a point! Hoping everyone is safe and not too much damage is done.

Hope all is well with you and your family. So pleased to read you have company with your. Loved the trees video..... the trees are so beautiful. The TV news here paints a scary picture of flooding and power cuts.. so please take care.
Best wishes

I feel you Rayna. I got about 2-3 hours of light sleep last night. 50+ mph winds and 70mph gusts here West of Cleveland so I imagine your neck of the woods was way over the top of that. I can see some trees down and my power was out for about 7 hours.
I'm glad you have company and I'm betting your trip out west will go smoothly.
Sending you tons of positive vibes and white light to surround you.

Hope you had a quiet night and that the worst is over! I was up until past midnight, following the news and watching the NY harbor webcam. The white light I saw at about 8.35 was rather yikes, guess it was the power station.

Glad you're ok. Daughter got last flight out of Detroit to LGA after my dad's 90th birthday party. Astoria in ok shape. We're getting the wind and rain here, but it's no big deal. Hope it all dries out soon.

Hoping you are still OK today, and that you might even have power! I drove back home from Boston yesterday just ahead of the storm. Wind was crazy up here where I live - but it always is. Porch furniture moved itself around all night, but the power stayed on. (Miracle - our power usually goes out if anyone on our road has a sneezing fit!) Anyway, thinking of you, and sad for NJ, NYC, and other places badly affected. Take good care, Rayna!

Hi Rayna... all is good in my neck of the city of brotherly love! Wow that was a big storm.

Over here in northeast Ohio we are still getting pounded with rain and the line for snow is only about 30 miles from where I am located. Yikes! The wind is still howling. It sounded like a train last night roaring thru the woods in my backyard last evening. We have power at the house and at work (darn!) so no complaints. Be safe!

Been hoping all ok. Devastation on the news is alarming. Good to hear you safe. Wish I could take your class. Maybe the next time you are out West.

glad you made it through.

My son said it was a little crazy at times. He lives in NY, Brookland). Glad he was there and not down in Manhattan.

Hope you are safe and well Rayna!
We are taking a pounding west of Cleveland (60 foot+ tree came down in my backyard last night), so I can't even imagine what it's like in Jersey.
Stay safe
