my one-thousandth post

Goodness, how did that happen? It's in the same category as old age - creeps up without your even noticing and ambushes you. My first blog post was January 31, 2005, which means I'm coming up on a 5 year blogiversary in a couple of months. It hardly seems possible. More on this, later. As a result of my delicious lunch at Sujatha's on Thursday, I asked her to send me her recipes, which she did. This morning, depressed by the boring idea of going food shopping, I decided to look for an Indian supermarket and found Patel Brothers, several miles away. I had the MOST fun shopping there and came home laden with ingredients I had either run out of or didn't have in the first place. Fresh chilis, cilantro, curry leaves, beautiful ginger, and a host of dals. On weekends they have fresh samosas, 2 for a dollar, so I bought half a dozen. They smelled divine. Tomorrow night we will have a good dinner. Today, I cooked for Jessica and will send several meals in tomorrow with her father. He, in turn, will bring me back the sewing machine I bought for Jessica that she does not want. I was supposed to go in to the city tomorrow but now I will go to the studio instead, to get ready for Open Studios next week. I have a few more scarves to finish and have to figure out what work I am putting on the wall. In the meantime, here is the scarf I put the umpteenth layer on tonight and I think I am done. Or not. We'll see. I will give it away by random drawing in honor of my 1000th post to one of you who leaves a comment tomorrow. Make sure your e-mail link is there or I won't be able to contact you. Each comment has a number, so if yours is picked you're the (lucky?) winner. One last note, before I go to bed: Ever vigilant, seems to be going overboard with its spam filter. Tonight, I was quite annoyed to see that they intercepted some exciting and hard-to-resist offers that I really need to take advantage of. Incredible mail. Are there really people who pay them 265$ with greed in their eyes? Obviously! If not, mails of this kind wouldn't reach us. If only they sent some pictures of African cloth along. I would appreciate that.
-- Fresh ginger! A gift of heaven. My doc told me to make tea of it with sweet wood. Ginger should be handled with care in case of inflammations in the body; it has a warming effect.
-- The piece of cloth: Perfect. Whatever more work you'll do on it, it will remain perfect.

WOW! I never get interesting SPAM like that, or maybe I do, but just never open it. I seem to attract the "enlarge your 'member'" sort of thing. Wonder what that says? They are certainly up front about it and put it in the subject line so it is easy to delete and not wonder what was in the message. If I don't recognize the sender, forget it.

Happy 1,000th post! I'm so glad that my friend Diane introduced me to you oh so many years ago!
I never get such interesting SPAM mail as you do! This morning I found an email from my husband in there though.......and invitation to take a Florida vacation with him right after Christmas! HMMMMM!

Congrats on your 1000th post! I'm trying to remember when I started following you... it's been almost 2 years I think, and you continue to inspire and make me laugh as well! As for the mail, I always have a large number of spams I check to be sure someone I know hasn't fallen into the bucket. It is amazing if anyone falls for those things, but they must or these people wouldn't keep sending them out! BTW, I love the scarf! You do amazing stuff, lady!

Congratulations on "old age" - your posts still feel fresh and welcome.

I love time in the Indian groceries. The aromas! The enormous bags of beans and spices! You can get excellent frozen paratha. My daughter loves the ones stuffed with beans.

Love the spam! How do you see them if Verizon culls them? I don't see the spam that roadrunner doesn't forward to me.
Love the scarf and hope I win it.

Good Morning Rayna,

Congrats on your 1000th post, I hope a lot more will follow because you know they are part of my off island art education :) !

And what this island concerns: now this is what we certainly do have in abundance here: Indian food!! Nearly all merchants are from India, so they see to it that Indian cuisine can be enjoyed here in the Caribbean with which I am very happy, for I love the dals, the tandori, the bhuna ghoshes and the samosa's etc!
Would be marvelous if I could win the scarf, I'm keeping my fingers crossed...

Congrats on your 1000th post! YOu get much more interesting SPAM than I do. I keep getting offers for Viagra and some interesting things to do with my extension. Interesting that I don't get offers for bigger boobs.

Connie Rose said...

Congrats, Rayna, on your 1000th post! That's a lot of words...and a lot of art!

Your selection of spam was a great way to start Sunday with a laugh and a light heart. Have a wonderful day!

Congrats on your 1000 blog posts! I just started Blogging this year and will continue. Did you use a thermal screen to print the trees on the bottom scarf? Love it!
Hoping to be the winner of your scarf. I enjoy reading your blog, thanks for posting.

Rayna, I can't tell you how much fun it was reading the mail that was sent to YOU. It is so much more annoying when it is coming to ME.

Debra Dixon said...

I read an article on scammers from overseas and a particular group of them averaged upwards of $40,000- $60,000/year scamming Americans. I don't know about you but I don't make that kind of money.

I am always tempted to have the guy who does internet tattoos come over and do a "tatton" on my arm. Not.

Happy 1000 posts! It's amazing we've been at it this long. I hit 1000 a few months ago.

Gerrie said...

I love that scarf. Please pick me. Please, please. LOL

Thank you for posting the spam. It allows me to delete them from my email without even opening them!

I hope you get a chance to do a workshop in the Pacific Northwest in the near future. I'd love to take it.

Congratulations on a 1000 interesting posts! I've been following you since you spoke at the Santa Barbara guild - 3-4 years ago! I didn't know much about you then, but I knew I loved your art - and I still do - more than ever!

Congratulations Rayna, both on 1000 posts and all the winnings in you SPAM file! Do people just sit at home and think of ways to scam others? It must pay well. Have a great day - your dinner sound delicious.

Rayna, so glad I don't get spam like that! My Apple Mail program keeps these things at bay! Might be interesting once in a while, but.....

Heres looking at another 1000!

Dear Rayna,
I am a woman of peace...
But I won't solicit you for funds or tell you that you're the new winner of anything :-) .
Wish we had an Indian grocery here, or even a restaurant, preferably a buffet: it's too hard to choose just one entree.

By the way, did you ever try planting those berries from your asparagus fern (yeah that was me).

Hi Rayna, I really like what Ted said. I just can't top it. Anyway congrats on your 1000th post. I know I haven't read them all because I haven't known you that long...but would love to win your scarf! Here's to 1000 more!

Now, how could anyone resist those offers from so obviously legitimate sources. Just look at the grammar--Oxford graduates, to be sure. And all you have to do is to collect all that money is pay money? Rayna, you are missing the boat!

Seriously, we need more education in this country if people are falling for these scams. I had a discussion with my 12-year old granddaughter last evening about her critical thinking homework. I told her she is lucky she's being taught to think. Too many people don't.

I'm sorry I didn't check your blog yesterday and am now too late for the drawing. But I do have two of your beautiful scarves already.

I read your blog even when there isn't a prize! In fact, yours is the one I read most often.
Thanks for communicating!

Thanks for all the wonderful posts and since I am only on 200 posts, 1000 is incredible.

Is it too late to get in on the scarf drawing? (She says greedily...) I love your blog, read it every day. I liked what you said the other day about laughter, and how you & your brother always laugh; reminded me of my sister and my mother. Whenever any two of us get together or talk on the phone, the laughter is loud and non-stop. I can't imagine what any of us think we're so funny about, but at least we enjoy ourselves. Well, and my brother too - hysterically funny, at least in our own minds! The other day my mom & I were fabric "shopping" - by which I mean we were examining every bolt in the place close-up and personal and at the same time laughing and carrying on - and the owner said she'd never seen anybody enjoy themselves so much fabric shopping. Which made us wonder what most people's problem is - if you can't have a great time looking at fabric for hours on end, what WOULD give you a good time? I hope most people aren't as miserable as they seem so much of the time; perhaps they're just more restrained in their pleasures.

And oh yeah, I'd love to be tossed in the hat for a scarf! I'm making a mess of scarves this season - it would be a great thrill to get the result of somebody else's obsession!
