happy? new year

The weekend was great. We stayed with our friends in their gorgeous NY apt, ate out (all too well), and saw two movies I can recommend highly. Went to the New Museum (don't bother) and MOMA (yes! - pix later). The weather cooperated and was moderate, not bitter. So what was the problem? We got home, my husband asked if I wanted him to take my suitcase up. I said "no, leave it." Of course, he ignored me and as he was going up the stairs, he lost his balance and fell backwards. Tonight, I am here and he is in the hospital under observation. Nothing broken. Never a dull moment in the Gillman household.

Back to the weekend, a more pleasant subject. The New Museum, on the Bowery, is a most peculiar and unfriendly place. The rest rooms are in the basement and on the 5th floor. The exhibits are on floors 2,3,4. There is ONE elevator for the whole building, so you wait. You can't use the stairs. if you go to the restroom in the basement, you have to have your ticket to re-enter the museum when you get back up to the first floor. God help you if you have to take your 6 year old to the bathroom and your husband, who has the entry ticket stubs, is on the 4th floor. They won't let you back into the museum. On top of that, what a waste of time. Click on the link and scroll down to the bottom of the page to sees an example of the art.

On the other hand, the Martin Puryear sculpture at MOMA was to die for. I took some pictures, but if you want to see the exhibit on-line, hit the link above.

I think i've had it for today - but I did want to get this report up before I crashed tonight.

Tomorrow, I deliver my art at 10:00 for an exhibit - and then back to the hospital to see my husband and hope he can come home - AND my mother, who is in the same facility recovering from pneumonnia. How nice: two for the price of one.

Oy! Sometimes a boring, uneventful life seems so preferrable, doesn't it?? Hope your husband's doing well and comes home today.

Thanks for the link to Martin Puryear. I did not know his work, which I have now found is wonderful, and your link to his sculptures go to clean, pure pages of images which echo and enhance the feeling and craft of his work. Happy 2008, and I hope your husband is ok.

Best wishes to your hubby for a speedy recovery. As for the NM art - gag. In contrast, the Martin Puryear piece is graceful and lovely.

Youch! What a way to start the year. I hope Marty's OK and back home by now.

You get an "A" for effort on the New Museum front. Now just try to forget it ever happened. If the Puryear exhibit was half as good has his website, then it must have been amazing. I want that site.
